3.6 Merging vertices

A typical modeling project in Blender might require a few hours of work

using tools to extrude, connect, and cut models. That work results in a

3D object ready to receive materials and textures for rendering. It is

possible to end up with duplicated vertices, edges, or faces in a

particular region during the process.

That could create visual problems with modifiers like Subdivision

Surface. In 3D modeling, those visual problems usually receive the

name of "artifacts."

Luckily for us, we have a quick way to eliminate those duplicates using

an option from the Context Menu called Merge. Using the Merge option,

you can get two or more vertices from a model and turn them into a

single vertex.

Info: The Merge options only appear when you have Vertex marked as

the primary selection in Edit Mode.

For instance, if you look at Figure 3.22, you see a model with two

vertices that we could merge.
